Often, when dealing with nerve pain into the legs, patients will refer to this as “sciatica”. Sciatica refers to the sciatic nerve, which is a large nerve that extends from the low back into the back of the legs, to the feet. There are lots of reasons that nerve pain can start. In our experience, the number one cause of nerve irritation is disc compression of a nerve.
Disc injuries are often referred to as: disc bulges, disc protrusions, disc herniations, slipped discs, etc.
Disc injuries can affect the neck, mid back, and low back. The resulting nerve irritation can cause tingling, numbness, burning, muscle spasm, pins and needles, etc – that extends into and down the arms and legs to hands and feet. These kinds of symptoms are often worse at night, which affects a patient’s ability to sleep comfortably.
A lack of sleep can often effect a patient’s ability to heal, which further decreases the potential for treatment success.
At Tomball Chiropractic Spine and Rehab, we believe the faster you can get rid of nerve pain, the less likely the patient is to have long-term damage. We utilize a multi-faceted treatment approach that incorporates different conservative treatment methods and, if necessary, multiple medical specialties.
While we’d love to “fix” all of our patients with chiropractic care alone, we understand the benefits of coordinated care and our patients appreciate our willingness to work well with other providers.
If you suffer with nerve pain, it could be a sign of a serious underlying problem.
